Closed-door workshop on China's quantum computing and communication efforts and its impacts for Europe
The Mercator Institute for China Studies is organizing a closed-door workshop on China's quantum computing and communication efforts and its impacts for Europe. The event will take place online on 10 July 2024 from 15.00-17.00.
The workshop is part of a three-year research project titled "The China Tech Observatory" that is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The project will build an online dashboard covering six critical technologies, analyzing China's policies, progress and ecology, as well as impacts for German and European stakeholders. Quantum is one of these six technology areas, next to AI, biotech, digital communication, green tech and semiconductors.
During the workshop we will seek feedback on preliminary research of Chinese policies, progress and ecology. We would also invite discussion on the relative strengths and weaknesses of mission-oriented approaches in Europe and China. The event will also touch upon recent and anticipated actions by US and European governments to restrict exports to China in this field.
